## The list

The shopping list collects the ingredients of everything planned for one shopping cycle, so you can buy it all in one trip. It is built automatically; you never type it in.

You find it in the [Planner](https://mealplanner.gdc-world.net/planner), below **Add to plan**.

How the list is built:

- **Which days:** all days of the shopping cycle in focus, from the shopping day to the day before the next one. Normally that is the week on screen; while the planning assistant is open, it is the cycle being planned. See [Shopping day](https://docs.gdc-world.net/recipe-book/planner/#shopping-day).
- **Merged:** the same ingredient from several recipes becomes one line with the amounts added up. The recipes it comes from are listed in small letters below it. A recipe planned twice counts twice.
- **Amounts** are taken from the recipes as written. A line without an amount is an ingredient used "to taste".
- **Units:** the whole list uses one measurement system, **Metric** or **US** as chosen under [Default units](https://docs.gdc-world.net/recipe-book/settings/#units). With **Original**, it uses the system most of the planned recipes are written in.
- **Aisles:** lines are grouped by supermarket aisle in the order you walk through a shop, for example **Fruit & vegetables**, **Meat & fish**, **Dairy & eggs**.

When new recipes come into the list, **Sorting by aisle…** may show for a moment while the app (with the help of AI) works out where each ingredient belongs. You can use the list meanwhile.

If nothing is planned for the cycle, the list says **Plan a few meals to build a list.**

## Pantry check

Staples such as oil, salt or flour are usually at home already. So they do not crowd the list, they are folded away at the bottom under **Check your pantry**, with their number in brackets.

1. Tap **Check your pantry** to open it.
2. Check your cupboard and tick what has run out.

The app makes a first guess at what counts as a staple. Correct it for your kitchen:

- **Always in stock — move to pantry:** the arrow pointing down at the end of a line moves it into the pantry check.
- **Move back to the shopping list:** the arrow pointing up on a pantry line moves it back.

On an iPad or phone the arrow is always shown; with a mouse it appears when you point at the line. Your choice is remembered for all future lists and applies to your whole household.

## Ticking off

Tick the box in front of a line when it is in the trolley. The line is crossed out and stays in the list.

- Ticks are saved and shared with your household, so two people can shop from the same list.
- Ticks belong to one shopping cycle. The list of a new cycle starts with nothing ticked.
