# Using the app

## The menu

The menu on the left takes you to every part of the app. Its entries change with what you are looking at, so the trip you are working on is always one tap away.

*[Image: The trip overview with the menu on the left, the trip's own menu group, and the header above the content.]*

**1** marks the top of the menu, which is always there:

- **Trips** lists every trip in your household. The number beside it is how many there are.
- **Open decisions** lists what is still missing in the trips you are planning, and the to-dos there that are running out of time. The number counts both, so it matches what the screen shows.

As soon as you open a trip, a group with its name appears below. **2** marks its first entry, **Overview**. The group also holds **Schedule**, **Day by day**, **To-dos** and **Budget**, followed by every stop of the trip, in route order. The number beside **Day by day** counts things that have lost their day, for example after a stay was shortened.

At the bottom are **Settings**, **Help**, your e-mail address with your household's name, and **Sign out**.

### On a phone or a narrow screen

On a phone, and on an iPad held upright, the menu is hidden to leave room for the content.

*[Image: The menu opened as a drawer on a phone.]*

- Tap **Open menu** (the button at the far left of the header) to slide the menu in. Choosing an entry, or tapping beside the menu, closes it again.
- A bar at the bottom of the screen always offers **Trips**, **Open decisions**, **Settings** and **Help**. **Help** opens the whole guide; the **?** in the header only explains the screen you are on.

## The header

The header at the top tells you where you are and holds what you can do on this screen.

- **3** is the screen's title. The line below it gives the dates or a short description.
- On screens that belong to something else, an arrow to the left of the title (**Back**) takes you one level up, for example from the schedule back to the trip overview.
- **4** is one of the screen's own actions, here **Edit schedule**. Each screen has its own; they are explained in that screen's topic.
- **5** is the **?** button. It opens the help for this screen.

## Help beside the screen

The **?** button in the header opens a short explanation of the screen you are on, without leaving it.

*[Image: The schedule with the help panel open beside it.]*

- **1** opens and closes the help. It is always the last button in the header.
- **2** closes the panel.
- **3**, **Open the full guide**, opens the whole topic as a page. All topics are then also listed in the menu under **Help**.

To browse the guide without starting from a screen, choose **Help** in the menu, or on a phone in the bar at the bottom.

On a very wide screen, such as a large computer monitor, the panel sits beside the content and you can keep working. On anything narrower, including an iPad held sideways, it slides in over the content from the right; tap beside it to close it.

The panel stays open while you move around and always jumps to the part that explains the new screen. Whether it is open is remembered on this device.

## Pull to refresh

The app loads your trips once and does not keep checking for changes. If someone else in your household has just changed something, refresh to see it.

1. Scroll to the very top of the screen.
2. Pull down with one finger until the indicator stops, then let go.

This reloads the list of trips and the trip you have open. It works on touch screens only; on a computer, use the browser's reload button.

The app also reloads an open trip by itself when you come back to it after more than a minute in another app or tab.

## Undo a deletion

Small things can be deleted with one tap, because a message lets you take it back.

After you delete a to-do, a budget item, a fixed date or a to-do category, or remove a document from an option, a message appears at the bottom, for example **To-do deleted.** For five seconds it offers **Undo**: tap it, and everything is back as it was.

- If you close the message, or leave the trip, the deletion is final.
- If deleting fails, the item reappears and the app says **Could not delete this — it is still there.**

Bigger deletions, such as a whole trip, ask for confirmation first instead.

## When someone else changed the trip

Two people can work on the same trip at the same time. So that nobody overwrites the other's work unnoticed, the app refuses a save when the trip has changed in the meantime.

You then see **Someone else changed this trip**. Your screen already shows the other person's version.

- **Keep theirs** leaves their version as it is. Your change is not saved.
- **Apply mine again** saves your change on top of theirs. It is only offered when your change did not concern the stops, for example the trip's notes or status.

If your change concerned the stops, for example their order, their nights or an option chosen at a stop, look at the new state and make your change again. This way nothing of theirs is lost.
